Firefoxes Australia Continues to Grow
FIREFOXES continues to be a leader in the recovery efforts Australia wide, along with being an example of grass roots resilience and what is possible after disaster. FIREFOXES has contributed immensely to the re-building of a more resilient community and also has an international presence in disaster recovery.
FIREFOXES encourages “Creating A New Normal and Realising Your Dreams” and they have filled a large gap in the long emotional recovery process. FIREFOXES share the lessons learnt and knowledge with other communities, covering everything from preparedness, response, and recovery for women, men and children and what is possible at a grass roots level.
Firefoxes were most recently awarded:
Community Group of the Year 2013 in the Regional Achievement & Community Awards.
State and National Award Winner of the Resilient Australia Award; an Australian Government initiative, sponsored by Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, recognising innovative practices and achievements making communities safer, stronger, more resilient and better prepared to manage any emergency situation.
Winner of Fire Awareness Award (Recovery Award category); a collaborative venture between Victoria’s fire agencies – Country Fire Authority (CFA), Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) and Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) and supported by the Fire Services Commissioner.
Pride of Australia Medal
The Herald-Sun, Pride of Australia Medal recognises ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things. Their contribution is not widely known or recognised, but through their achievements they inspire all of us to help make our nation a better place.
Firefoxes Australia was nominated for the Pride of Australia Medal in 2010, in the Community section. The awards ceremony was held in early September and we are very excited to announce that from thousands of entries, Firefoxes Australia won the Community Spirit Section! We are so very proud of every person who has contributed to Firefoxes becoming such a vibrant and successful organisation. We look forward to helping many more women to create a new normal and realise their dreams!
